Given that we are currently in a difficult situation, it is critical that we understand how to live our lives, despite the fact that the majority of Filipinos, as well as the economy, have been affected by the COVID 19 pandemic. The majority of sectors were affected, but the agriculture sector remained stable. As a result, even prestigious businesses were forced to close, and many Filipinos were forbidden from leaving their homes to prevent the virus from spreading.

The Pangasinan State University Sta. Maria Campus took this situation to help and promote the Agriculture sector. The institution continues to believe that individuals must work in agriculture during this pandemic. As a result, the faculty of the department of ABM and BSA presented an extension activity that would assist the community in producing their own food despite a lack of space or farmland. This will also assist them in surviving their daily lives, as they are restricted to go to market on a regular basis. This is also to encourage the community to live a healthier lifestyle and eat more farm-to-table foods.

Justice Lery R. Roderos, Catherine Mae M. Rama, Marry Rose Callorina, Mark Argyll Tambaoan, and Rheyte Nicolas of the College of Agriculture executed an approved extension activity called Vertical Agriculture. The event was held in six barangays in Sta. Maria, Pangasinan. These barangays were chosen using the criteria established by the project leaders, as well as suggestions from local government officials. Pob west, San Mariano, Sta. Rosa, Paitan, Cauplasan, and San Alejandro were among the barangays that were chosen. The seminar began on July 5th, 2021, and finished on July 16th, 2021.

Mr. Roderos and Ms. Callorina were in charge of teaching the heart of vertical agriculture, while Mrs. Rama and Mr. Tambaoan were in charge of teaching various agricultural management skills, particularly composting and organic fertilizer preparation, FFJ and FPJ.The entire college, particularly the college’s heads, showed their support and presence. Dr. Brenda Panelo, dean of the College of Agriculture, and Dr. Ricardo Garcia, chairman of the college, were always the ones to greet the attendees.

After the speakers’ presentation, the distribution of blue drums and seeds began. They will be able to put what they have learned into practice and explore modern agriculture with the help of these fundamental materials. The blue drums and seeds were included in the proposal to compel participants to participate in the extension activity.
