A national average of 12% rejects and wastes of mango production is realized annually. This includes production of Pangasinan as it experiences typhoons, strong winds, pests and diseases. These are only few factors that affect the quality production of mangoes. Mango growers in Sta. Maria had experienced infestation of the Cecid Fly that affected their mango yield. Most of the fruits damaged by this pest are not marketable. Mango growers are left with volumes of reject fruits in their farms.
The Pangasinan State University has recognized the problem of the Mango growers and came up with the development and utilization of technology on Mango fruit processing. Technology cooperators were selected for quality assessment and market acceptability test runs were also conducted. Tarinings on Mango Wine Processing were conducted by the Pangasinan State University-Sta. Maria Campus to Mango cooperators in Sta. Maria, Pangasinan. Return on investment of 200% was realized after the Mango wine was marketed and sold. The sweet partnership between the Pangasinan State University-Sta. Maria Campus and the Mango Growers and Handlers Farmers Association has been a victory, definetely, there is winning in Mango Wine Production.
